Alice: Paper Topic
For my paper I am thinking about writing about Alice in Wonderland because I really didn't like The Alchemist at all. Although I didn't like the ending to Alice i'm still kind of interested in some of the things in the novel. Things such as the many comparisons made between the characters and other things in comparison to the Victorian Era. I find it very interesting and think that Lewis Carroll did intend to use characters and maybe the setting to tell of how the Victorian Era was while at the same time writing a children's story.

Refelcting on The Alchemist
Some things that I see going on in this book would be that the boy I don't think is very smart because he says that he would never give up his sheep and then the next day he does, so that he can go on search for some treasure that might not even exist. Also I see that the boy is choosing to go in search for the treasure instead of going back to being a sheperd. the boy decides to follow all the good omens and to not ignore them because he finds them important.

Burton's Characters compared to Carroll's Book
In Tim Burton's movie he makes Johnny Depp's character the "Mad Hatter" stand out more and have a bigger part than Alice in the movie. When in the book Alice has a bigger part and the Mad Hatter has a very little part and isn't as important. Tim Burton seems to really like Johnny Depp, which is why I think he gave him a big part in the movie. Johnny Depp is in a lot of Tim Burton's Movies such as The Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.

Caterpillar's Perspective
So I was sitting on top of a great big mushroom, when all of a sudden I look over and there is this very small girl staring back at me. She looked very confused and lost and I didn't quite know what to say to her. I then asked her who she was. I was getting very irritated by her because she wouldn't tell me who she was. I asked a simple question and yet she couldn't even answer or explain herself. I was very annoyed. She didn't seem to know anything and liked to argue and ask a lot of questions, so I finally got off the mushroom and left. Although, I did try and help her by telling her what she could et to either grow larger or smaller.

Women's Rights in Victorian England
A woman who was single would attract disapproval and pity. She couldn't have children or even live together with a man with a sexual relationship or have a profession. Girls during this time could only have low paying jobs and had less education than boys. Pretty much the woman's purpose during the Victorian Era were to reproduce and marry. When the woman got married all of her stuff automatically was owned by the man. Most women between the ages of 15 to 22 would have to result to prostitution in order to earn some money during this time. Over 9000 prostitutes were known by cops.
Also when the woman was married she agreed to obey her husband which was written in the marriage ceremony. It wasn't until the late 20th century that it could be omitted from their wedding vows. The woman's husband pretty much controlled everything. he could take her kids and send them to live somewhere else or spend their wife's inheritance on prostitutes or whichever.

Favorite Book
Out of all the books i've read, I would have to say my favorite book is The Count Of Monte Cristo. I came across this book my senior year of English at Brookings High School. Th Count of Monte Cristo really interested me because you never knew what would happen next in the book. Usually I don't like most books that I have to read in school, but this one i really enjoyed.
